stop the junk

are you tired of junk mail...
who isn't?

well, there's an entire $56billion industry setting out to keep those mail boxes filled to the brim and your frustration levels high...and the environment is suffering too.

The production and disposal of direct mail consumes more energy than 3 million cars. (New American Dream calculation from U.S. Department of Energy and the Paper Task Force statistics)

so what can you do? well, it's all fairly easy.

first, recycle ALL your junk mail. current estimates show that 44% of all junk mail is unopened when thrown away.

second, put on the brakes with the DMA(direct market association). remove your name from national mailing lists by going online and registering with the DMA's Mail Preference Service. (on their site, scroll down to the silver "register" button.) registering with the service indicates that you do not want to be contacted by solicitors.

third, get out of all those stinking credit card offers...the big 3, transunion, experian and equifax, are all stopped with a single phone call to 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) or a stop online at www.optoutprescreen.com

  1. Another informative post, Danyele. I've tried to have my name removed from lists and even paid, I think it was Greendimes.com, to have it done. As soon as someone in my house ordered from a catalog or from a store online, we were right back on lists again. You have to put forth a continued effort.
